i like to let my work speak for itself
but here’s some more info, in case you’re curious

director

riley hanlon

I am a freelance director and cinematographer based out of Northern Virginia. I’ve spent lots of my life adventuring and traveling through nature, sparking my interest in adventure documentary.
I went to James Madison University and graduated from the Media Arts & Design Major, with a minor in Music Industry and an Honors Degree. I spent my years at JMU making videos for random organizations and events for free as I honed my craft. I spent lots of time networking  with all of the wonderful people there, and have been collaborating with lots of these alum in their post-grad careers. My Honors thesis was a 4 part documentary on Ultra Marathon Running; a year long effort to try and create a piece with content I enjoy in a style that I could call my own.
I have experience everywhere from one man documentary shoots to 60+ crewed narrative film sets; with budgets from nothing (literally) to no expense spared. I am growing and learning everyday, and am always looking for new techniques and technologies to help me accomplish every new project in the most engaging and innovative way possible.

am I right for your project?

Short answer: yes. I’ve DP’d larger crews, worked in many different departments, done run-n-gun, and live event work; as well as doing a majority of the post production for most of my projects. I also never miss an opportunity to network with people; so if I know I'm not the perfect person for your project, I'll know someone who is and can send you their way.

my wife, ranger ashley

Every adventerour needs a companion. I found mine in my wife, Ashley. We got married October 2014 and have been slowly exploring the globe ever since!

even more personal

my wild family

The ones that started it all. Instead of hotels and beaches, my family vacations growing up involved national parks and camping. Having visited almost every single park by the end of High School, my family had destined me for a lifetime of natural travel. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
